District Director

Members Matter Most

Welcome Fellow Toastmasters to the 2017-2018 Toastmasters Year and the 75th Anniversary of our District!

That’s right. This is our Diamond Anniversary. For 75 years, our District has helped thousands of members step out of their comfort zone, building their confidence and helping them become better communicators and leaders.

I am honored to serve as your District 13 Director for 2017-2018 where our theme is “Members Matter Most.” I chose this theme because it is you, the member, that is the heart and soul of our organization and what makes the organization great today. For that reason the member sits at the top of our Toastmasters International Service Chart. You make the difference!

The mission of our District is to build new clubs and support all clubs in achieving excellence. I am passionate about the benefits this organization can provide to its members through its educational and leadership programs, and believe strongly that by focusing on meeting our member’s needs, our clubs, and our District will not only survive but thrive!

How will we do that? We will do this in two ways: By emphasizing the one hidden jewel we have in our Toastmasters tool box, the mentoring program, while we focus on the M.E.M.B.E.R!

Why should our clubs have a mentoring program? There is no better way to grow your club and yourselves than by offering a mentoring program. It’s a great way to engage your current, more experienced, or perhaps less active members. As Ralph Smedley stated: “Ours is the only organization I know dedicated to the individual; we work together to bring out the best in each of us and then we apply these skills to help others.” And we do just that through Mentoring.

The second way we will accomplish that is by Making Every Meeting Be Educational and Rewarding! (M.E.M.B.E.R) By focusing on the MEMBER, we will grow our members, our clubs, and ourselves to be the best communicators and best leaders we can be. And this year, I am excited to say we will take our educational and leadership programs to the next dimension with the introduction of our revitalized education program, Pathways, with the help of our Chief Ambassador and Past District Governor Stephanie Scott, DTM. Our Program Quality Director, Jennifer Sell, DTM, will be working with you to help ensure your clubs are working toward your educational and leadership goals by providing excellent training and resources for your clubs! Make sure to check out the Mentoring resources we have as well as the Document Library on our District 13 website!

By focusing on our member’s needs and ensuring they have the best experience possible not only helps the member grow, the club grow, but the district grow as well. You are the best advertisement for the benefits this program has to offer. Our Club Growth Director, Denise Etter, DTM, will be working with you to help grow our district and support the first part of our District Mission – to build new clubs. Make sure to look for more information coming from Denise in the coming months!
With your help, we will strengthen our existing clubs and make them sustainable, helping them grow through membership building contests, open houses, and mentoring, all while focusing on the M.E.M.B.E.R. and expanding our District through new club growth opportunities.

Happy 75th Anniversary District 13! This is our year to shine. Let’s make this 75th year the best one yet.
All the best,
Francine Milligan, DTM
District Director, 2017-2018
