Toastmasters International–a non-profit organization founded in 1924–is dedicated to giving its members the opportunity to develop and improve both their communication and leadership skills as its members learn-by-doing at local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests.All About TI

Toastmasters International includes approximately 270,000 men and women in more than 13,000 clubs in more than 116 countries. As of 2010, Toastmasters International consists of 14 Regions that span across the world. District 13 is currently a member of Region VII which includes all of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Virginia, North and South Carolina, as well as parts of New Jersey, West Virginia and Ohio.

Individual Membership

People throughout the world join Toastmasters clubs to improve their communication and leadership skills while building self-confidence. Members are from a variety of occupations and backgrounds. They include physicians, auto mechanics, executives, teachers, homemakers, artists, college students, supervisors, attorneys, engineers, salespersons and more.  Interested individuals can join a community club which serves those members who can conveniently attend the meeting location or join a corporate club sponsored by businesses who use Toastmasters as a key element of their employee development program. Any individual 18 years or older is eligible to join Toastmasters.

 

How Do I Join Toastmasters?

Joining a Toastmasters club is easy. With over 72 clubs in District 13 and 13,000 clubs in 116 countries across the globe, there is sure to be one near you. Follow the Find a Club link to search Toastmasters International’s index of clubs.

Newly formed clubs will not show up in the search results for Find a Club. Please send an email to the district officers to see if there is a new club forming in your community.   On the other hand, if you feel passionate enough about having a club in your community or company, please contact our Lieutenant Governor of Marketing, Steve Templeton and let him know about your interest in starting a club.

 

Membership Application

Once you’ve decided on a club, download a membership application, or obtain one from the club you are joining.

Take your completed application and ask an officer of that club to help you complete it and submit it to Toastmasters International. Membership fees will be remitted to the club you are joining, typically in cash or by check.

 

About District 13

District 13 consists of 72 individual Clubs that are spread throughout our service area of western Pennsylvania, northwestern West Virginia, western Maryland and the southeastern Ohio Valley.

The District is governed by an Executive Committee headed by the District Governor. The Lt. Governor of Education & Training is responsible for the overall educational elements of the Toastmasters program along with formal training sessions called

Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) in the Summer and Winter as well as District Conferences in the Spring and Fall. The Lt. Governor of Marketing is responsible for membership growth and retention as well as the formation of new clubs within the District.

 

Region 7

On July 1, 2010, Toastmasters districts and clubs worldwide were aligned into 14 regions with the support of 14 International Directors (IDs) and 14 Regional Advisors of Marketing (RAs), one ID and RA for each region.

District 13 is aligned with Region VII, which is comprised of seven Districts: 13, 18, 27, 29, 36, 37, 38 and 66 — encompassing all or part of the following states: Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC.
