District 13 conducts five primary educational events each year and they include:
A District Officers Training Session in June each year to train the incoming Division and Area Governors on their responsibilities to support local Toastmasters Clubs and their officers throughout District 13;
The Summer Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) provides incoming Club Officers with information, tools and training to empower them in successfully fulfilling their duties as club officers as they support their clubs and club members. July 2011′s TLI was well-attended and received great reviews from club officers. We look forward to continuing to offer innovative programming to enhance the skills of our leaders at the winter TLI;
Our Fall Conference is a very special event this year due to a visit from the Second Vice President of Toastmasters International and Distinguished Toastmaster Mohammad Murad from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The fun begins on Friday evening “Fun Night” and continues on to Saturday’s parade of banners, informative workshops, luncheon, 2nd International Vice President Keynote speech and workshops. Let’s not forget the District Humorous Speech and Table Topics Contests and Saturday evening banquet. I have a feeling our Lieutenant Governor of Education and Training–Distinguished Toastmaster, Russell Drake–and his Fall Conference Chair–Past District Governor and Distinguished Toastmaster, Jing Humphreys–are having a wonderful time making this greatly anticipated event a huge success;
The Winter Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) is held in January of each year and it prepares Club Officers to share what they have learned thus far, rejuvenate so they can work to accomplish their goals and help their clubs succeed in reaching their educational, leadership and membership goals;
A Spring Conference is held each year in late April or early May. It also includes a Friday “Fun Night,” keynote speakers, workshops, a Saturday luncheon and evening banquet. The Spring Conference also provides us with our International Speech Contest Semi-finalist as well as the slate of newly-elected District Officers for the next Toastmasters year (starting July 1 of each year).
District 13 events are important for Toastmasters to fully understand that there are many educational, communications and leadership opportunities beyond their home club. Attending these district sponsored events give Toastmasters the opportunity to network with others and learn how other clubs conduct meetings, build membership and succeed. It is the beginning of establishing a new network of friends and your extended Toastmaster family.
