Public Relations 2010 – 2011

Our Public Relations goal this year is to craft a consistent, high-quality message regarding our Toastmasters experience and how it has helped to change lives. Our message must be consistent with and complementary to Toastmasters International’s efforts to provide an image that is professional, informational, inspirational and at times entertaining.
To that end, the District 13 Public Relations team will support these efforts by:
- Distributing the D13 KeyNotes on a regular basis, via email, so all Members are up-to-date on activities and target dates throughout the District and Toastmasters International;
- Publishing a regular newsletter, Heralding 13, that provides more detail about the activities of the District and highlighting individual member and Club achievements;
- Working with the District 13 Webmaster to ensure that the website provides great information and supporting materials to help clubs better understand the overall Toastmaster program, attract guests to club meetings, and turn guests into new Toastmasters;
- Supporting the effective use of Social Media and integrate these newer technologies with the website to extend the reach and frequency of the Toastmaster message to a broader audience
Public Relations for D13 Clubs
Public Relations is a vital element of the success of any Toastmasters Club. By making members aware of Club activities via a Club newsletter and other methods, you’ll have greater membership participation in meetings and club as well as District events. By letting the general public know about the Toastmasters program and how it helps individuals, you will support the club by attracting guests to your meetings in the expectation that new members will join your club, in part as a result of your efforts.
Toastmasters International has created two terrific publications … “When You Are the Vice President of Public Relations” provides an excellent overview of the role of VP of Public Relations for a Toastmasters Club. The second booklet “Let the World Know” is a great example of quality PR tips, techniques, do’s and don’ts, and examples of superior PR communications. Both publications are available in PDF format by clicking on the booklet’s image.
Toastmasters Branding
TI has created a “branding” page to make it easy to download materials such as: business cards; letterhead; brochures; fliers; etc. These templates can easily be customized for use in any club.
